Do I need a Grief Therapist or Grief counselor?
No, you don't need to see a counselor or therapist for your grief. While these professionals can be very helpful to process your emotions, most counselors and therapists are not specialised in working with grievers. In fact, grief is only one of the many topics during their studies and many wish, they would have a deeper understanding of grief in order to help mourning clients better. As a Grief Recovery Specialist I focus only on grief and grief alone. I have worked through my own losses and will not hold back sharing what I felt when those losses happened. While my losses are different then yours, simply knowing that my life hasn't been a walk in the park, might help you feel comfortable to open up.
Why does the Grief Recovery Method take so long? Is there a quick fix?
The Grief Recovery Method® is based on a set and firm curriculum and script. As a Grief Recovery Specialist I am following the curriculum and cannot change or modify it. The Grief Recovery Method® is evidence based. This means studies have been done by the Kent University to prove that the Method has effectively helped grievers. It works and it's amazingly simple and straight forward. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix to grief. Grief doesn't go away over night. Grief is an accumulation of everything that happened during the relationship with the person that has died or has left you. Grief is not only about the cause of the end or change of that relationship. We build relationships over time and therefore grief cannot be fixed in one session.
Is this program a traditional support group?
No, it's not a traditional support group for several reasons. First off, support groups meet typically once a week or once a month and you can easily skip a meeting without missing out on anything. In a traditional support group participants mainly share their stories. the Grief Recovery Method leads to the completion of the emotional pain caused by the loss. We take actions. Support groups are a wonderful tool for grievers and the Grief Recovery Method is an additional and very effective tool to heal your broken heart.
Why is it important to work through grief?
Grief is accumulative. New grief can trigger an old grief that hasn't been emotionally worked through. Unresolved grief can affect your physical and emotional wellbeing. Grief can cause aches and pains, migraines, depression, mood swings, affect our sleeping pattern, affect focus and concentration and much more. If you would break a bone, you would seek medical help. Likewise if your heart is broken, it's important to take actions towards healing.
Can't I just pour my heart out in front of a friend?
Yes you can. However, well meaning friends might unintentionally give you advise or share their opinion of what happened with you. Often, friends and family members don't know what to say and how to say it. You might want to share something that's too private and too confidential to share even with your closest friend. You might be worried that they might judge you.
Can I work through the Grief Recovery Handbook on my own?
Yes, you absolutely can. You can purchase the Grief Recovery Handbook online or in a bookstore or borrow it from a library and work through it on your own or with a friend. However, there is power in having a witness to the emotional work you will put in. If you work with me or any of the other trained Grief Recovery Method Specialists, you have an experienced guide at your fingertips, someone how you can trust and will lead you through the process towards healing from the pain. I have been working with grievers since 2017 and have worked through various losses myself.
How much homework is there?
Homework is mainly reading the Handbook and taking notes and doesn't take longer than a couple of hours each week.
What payment methods can I use?
I accept Venmo, cash, checks and Paypal and we can come up with a payment plan.
How is my privacy guaranteed?
